An Easy Definition of Art

Art is an ever changing field of human activities, which includes visual art, literature, dance, music, and other creative endeavors. It is the most diversified and multicultural of all disciplines and there is art for all taste and age. Art seeks to beautify the world in a variety of ways which include the visual arts such as painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and other types of art. In addition, people who appreciate art are often very choosy about the type of work that they will buy and enjoy. There is art for every taste.

An example of a visual art is painting or sculpting. Artists have been practicing this art since prehistoric times and it was not until the industrial revolution that they put the creation of paintings and sculptures to the work platform. Modern art is considered to be any work of visual art that exists primarily for the purpose of satisfying the aesthetic senses. It usually employs a number of the senses in combining colors, forms and textures to create an impression of beauty or fascination. This is also called ‘design’.

However, in order to agree with the definition of art, it is important to define beauty. The beauty of a work of art is determined by the audience or the person viewing the work. Beauty includes human beauty, aesthetic beauty, attractiveness, value, and the like. The idea of beauty is subjective and is relative to individual experiences and standards of the society in which the work of art has been produced.
